Hauting Adeline by H.D. Carlton review:

Haunting Adeline is the kind of book that leaves you constantly questioning the line between darkness and devotion. From the very beginning, the reader is introduced to a stalker who is difficult to categorize as either villain or hero. Zade is terrifyingly dominant, thriving on the fear he instills in his “little mouse,” yet the deeper the story unfolds, the more complex his character becomes. On one hand, he is ruthless and violent, living a life that operates in the shadows. His work dismantling human trafficking rings paints him as a savior—someone willing to become the monster in order to destroy worse ones. This duality makes him both unsettling and strangely admirable. The same man who stalks Adeline through the dark corners of her life is also the man who shows unexpected gentleness toward the children he rescues from horrific circumstances. Adeline herself is far from a helpless victim. Sharp-tongued, defiant, and stubbornly independent, she constantly challenges Zade’s control. Even when fear lingers between them, there is a tension neither of them wants to admit: the thrill of the chase and the magnetic pull of two damaged minds colliding. Beneath her sarcasm and resistance lies an undeniable curiosity about the darkness chasing her—and perhaps even a secret desire to be hunted. The novel balances two compelling storylines. One follows Adeline’s investigation into a cold case tied to her family’s past, unraveling secrets that have lingered for generations. The other explores the brutal realities of modern human trafficking through Zade’s dangerous crusade. Together, these plots weave suspense, horror, and moral ambiguity into a narrative that feels both disturbing and addictive. At its core, Haunting Adeline is about two deeply flawed individuals drawn together by obsession, trauma, and desire. It’s dark, unsettling, and unapologetically twisted—yet impossible to put down. Readers who enjoy morally gray characters, psychological tension, and taboo romance will find themselves captivated by the push and pull between predator and prey, where the line between fear and attraction blurs into something dangerously intoxicating.
